One teenage boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her infant's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was never taken in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged taken ashes attracted online responses, and although Kai was not named in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She added that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing heard, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that a 19-year-old urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from school staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's family landline and provided a voicemail saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.

The court heard his family said they did not got that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Probably untruths were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was released while investigations proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is not possible to discern his intent."
