Wu appeared on a local podcast recently to respond to comments from the Trump administration, which had described her as "far-left." President Trump had warned that he would call FIFA President Gianni Infantino if Boston did not "address its issues." A great deal of it is secured by agreement so that no one, even if they live in the White House, can change it. She added, "We're in a world where for attention, for power, for pushing the boundaries ... ongoing threats ... are issued at individuals and communities who stand their ground and submit or be obedient to a hateful agenda." She further stated, "We are going to continue being ourselves, and that means, unfortunately, we are going to be part of a discussion that is targeting what Boston stands for." Wu concluded by emphasizing her commitment for the Boston, saying, "Ten toes down for our city." Trump's Statements and FIFA's Involvement Earlier this week, Infantino was seen alongside Trump at the Gaza summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. Infantino has also been to the White House and presented World Cup and Club World Cup trophies to the president as presents. On Tuesday, Trump was questioned on unrest in a Boston neighborhood that included a police vehicle being set on fire. He responded, "If somebody is doing a bad job, and if I feel there's danger, I would call Infantino – the head of the organization, who's great." Trump continued, "I'd tell him: 'Let's move into another location' and they would do that. He wouldn't love to do it. But he would do it without hesitation." The president also directly criticized Wu, stating, "Boston's mayor is ineffective ... she's radical left, and they're taking over parts of Boston. That's a strong claim, right?" Past Warnings and Upcoming Tournament Information President Trump has made previous comments that he would take the similar discussion with Infantino about relocating matches from other host cities, which are part of the 16 locations across North America. The US is co-hosting the 2026 tournament with neighboring countries. The expanded tournament is scheduled to be held from 11 June to July 19 next summer.
