Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Dies

The female victim stabbed repeatedly to her neck area during a random assault near a bus shelter in Birmingham has died, authorities verified.

The victim, aged 34 years, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, charged over the attack.

Originally charged with attempted murder however after the woman's death the charge has been updated to include murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

The force said police personnel will remain in the downtown area on Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as British citizen of Black ethnicity, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, athletic shoes and rucksack.

Attack Site Details

The stabbing happened near Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act and Det Insp James Nix said they were working to understand the motive behind.

Witness Accounts

An area worker, employed in the vicinity, recounted paramedic and police activity after completing her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.

She described the scene as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.

"Many co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our security is compromised essentially, in the downtown area."

Another individual, 25, resident of Stoke, said he came to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned regarding the incident.

"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he stated.

"She lacks transportation and works at all of the big music venues... and to think a totally random act [happened], you know, it's terrible."
