Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially fatal collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two marshals ran across the track right in his path

The dangerous situation happened on the third circuit when safety workers were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to replace his compromised front wing

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was advised that fragments were located on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the governing body

"On lap three, safety personnel were alerted and put on alert to go onto the racing surface and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"Immediately when it was understood that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy officials were withdrawn and a caution signal was displayed in that area"
