Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface from March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching strategy and regular emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an better serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour title, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a competitive final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
